Michael Newman è Professore di Scrittura Artistica alla Goldsmiths, University of London. Tra i suoi progetti attuali c’è un lungo saggio su misura, misurazione e incommensurabile, che è interfaccia tra arte, scienza ed etica. Ha intenzione di utilizzare la residenza presso gli studi Mahler & LeWitt per portare a compimento questa ricerca.

Newman ha conseguito una laurea in letteratura inglese e storia dell’arte e un dottorato in filosofia presso la Catholic University di Leuven, Belgio. Ha pubblicato numerosi saggi su artisti moderni e contemporanei, tra cui Tacita Dean, nonché saggi tematici sulla ferita, l’orizzonte, la contingenza, la memoria, il disegno e il non senso. È autore dei libri Richard Prince Untitled (couple) (2006), Jeff Wall: Works and Writings (2007), Price, Seth (2010) e ‘Stuart Brisley: Performing the Political Body and Eating Shit’ in Stuart Brisley ( 2015). È co-editore di Rewriting Conceptual Art (1999) e The State of Art Criticism (2007). Le mostre che ha curato includono Tacita Dean alla York University, Toronto, e Revolver2 con Robin Klassnik alla Matt’s Gallery, Londra. È co-curatore della mostra FIGURE/S: Drawing After Bellmer presso The Drawing Room, Londra, 2021. Il suo saggio ‘Hans Bellmer: Thresholds’ è apparso nel volume allegato ON FIGURE/S (Londra: Ma Bibliothèque, 2021 ).
